“Show me a man who will jump out of an airplane and I’ll show you a man who will fight” – Gen. James M. Gavin

I was at the front of the plane, waiting like the others. Then the red light turned on. “Stand up! Hook up!” the jumpmaster yelled. “Gear check!” he yelled. “10 OK!” “9 OK!” “8 OK” “7 OK” “6 OK” “4 OK” “3 OK” “2 OK” everyone yelled. “1 OK!” i yelled. Then we waited to get over the DZ. A few minutes later the green light came on. “LET’S GO!” the jumpmaster yelled. I stood in the open door gazing down and the nightly covered ground. I jumped. The chute opened. What a relief. I landed in a field near a farm…

___________________________________________________________ I threw off my gear. There was AA fire and machine gun fire lighting up the night. I ran in to a house, when I found familiar faces. It was noka, meggis, and foxtails. They were marines, and came from the beaches. We decided to stay in the house that night………

We were woke up when we heard mortars and artillery rounds explode near the house. It toppled down on us. Me, meggis and foxtails crawled out. But no noka. “Where’s noka?” Fox asked. “I don’t know, hold on!” I said as I digged through the ruins. Then I found him, and pulled him. He took some bad shrapnel in the legs. “C’mon buddy,” I said as I pulled him along. Thats when they opened fire. We all hid behind some sandbags in the street. But we were pinned down. Js came around the corner out of nowhere and shot a bazooka rocket at the building with the enemy MG in it. The whole room went down. Js picked up his shotgun and ran towards us. I was so glad to see him alive I hugged him. “Hey!”  Boomer said as he came around like all the other troops I knew did. “We heard you needed help.” Rapidy said. “Yes, we did,” Meggis said. “Yeah, and now Noka got wounded?” Sheila asked because she was a Medic. “Yeah, he was hit,” Fox replied.

The other day it was cold and raining. But we were in an open field, trees lying around and all of a sudden MG fire came out of the treeline. We all charged at it, some of us wounded, some soldiers I didn’t know were killed. Every time I ran by a dead person I took his or her Dog Tags, saluted, and did the God Bless You thing…But there was too many dead lying around…I jumped behind a downed tree with the others. Boomer ordered Gamma brigade to charge. He ordered the rest to cover us. But I was in Gamma too. “Great,” I said. “UP AND OVER! CHARGE!” I yelled with Hattrick as we jumped over the downed trees. We were getting cut down. And I mean DOWN. Everywhere you looked there was dead and wounded men, Hattrick was hit in the arm and Seanehawk (Meat) Had to pull him back to cover for medical assistance. We found the enemy MG’s in the treeline, I leveled my Thompson, fired 20 bullets, they spread across and hit some gunners. The rest of our men killed them off, and the enemy retreated. We went through the woods to the other field and chased the enemy down, flanked them, and finished them off. Then, all of a sudden, explosions went everywhere. “ENEMY ARTILLERY!” Rapidy yelled. “GET DOWN!” Boomer20 yelled. We all crawled behind these sandbags and blown up vehicles like troop-carrying trucks, jeeps, and tanks. When the shelling stopped, we ran into a nearby city.

Chapter 2

We camped out inside some cozy buildings that night. I walked out into the streets where new recruits and reinforcements were coming in. We even got tanks. Wow.

I found an enemy prisoner strung up on a pole. He was twitching, and saying he wanted to die. “Well why didn’t you say so,” I said as I cocked my pistol and shot him in between the eyes. He fell over immediatly, I kicked him over into a ditch by the road.

We all had lunch, and loaded our weapons before we left for a patrol, and we were supposed to split up into different groups, or our brigades. We were walking past dug foxholes and trenches, and holes where mortars, missles from planes, and artillery shells landed and exploded. Then, we got what whoever was there before us got. We were shelled with Artillery and Mortars, we jumped in those foxholes and trenches and took cover.
